Myscil Muhammad

A mother of four grown children and a proud grandmother, I have a deep understanding of the challenges families face when navigating sensitive conversations. Based in the United Kingdom, I enjoy attending community events, reading and spending quality time with my grandchildren. I am also a Qualified Infant Massage Instructor and Family Group Conference Coordinator, and I am deeply passionate about empowering families worldwide with hope, reassurance, and practical strategies.

As I approached my forties, I began experiencing health concerns that, at the time, all seemed manageable. Eventually, after three years, I was finally diagnosed with Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (Mycosis Fungoides), a rare and incurable form of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

One of the most difficult aspects of my diagnosis was facing the question of how to talk to my two youngest children at the time about my cancer. I was overwhelmed with uncertainty about what to tell them, how much to share, and whether they would truly understand. As a parent, my first instinct was to protect them from such news, yet I knew that honesty and compassion were essential. Having that conversation remains one of the most challenging experiences of my life.

These personal experiences inspired my first book, “Having Conversations With Children About Cancer”, an activity and colouring book designed to support children and the adults caring for them. This book, along with my subsequent work, aims to empower parents, grandparents, carers, and professionals to talk openly and sensitively with children when a family member, whether a parent, carer, or extended relative, has been diagnosed with cancer.

I understand firsthand the uncertainty, fear, and emotional complexity children can experience when someone they love is facing a serious illness. Supporting children through these emotions requires compassion, honesty, and sensitivity, before, during, and after the situation unfolds. Honest and age-appropriate communication plays a vital role in helping children feel safe, informed, and emotionally supported.

Each of my books reflects my commitment to creating accessible, compassionate resources that encourage healing, emotional resilience, and personal growth. Drawing on both my lived experience and over 20 years of professional work in Social Care and Drugs and Alcohol services, I bring a unique blend of personal insight and professional expertise to my writing.

Life has presented me with many challenges over my 63 years, and through these experiences, I have learned that true happiness comes from living authentically. No matter what difficulties arise, I believe in living life as magically as possible in the present moment, creating positive, meaningful memories with the people we love and care for.
