Having Conversations With Your Child About Cancer: Empowering Child-Friendly Learning About Cancer Activity Colouring Book Is A Creative Way to Communicate with Your Child.
Cancer can be hard to talk about, especially with your child. You may feel worried, sad, angry, or guilty. You may not know what to say or how to say it. You may wonder how your child will react or what they will think.
The aim in creating this book is to empower parents, grandparents, carers, and professionals alike when having to talk to a child or children when someone in their family e.g., a parent, carer or an extended family member has been diagnosed with cancer in a way that’s educational, informative and supportive to the child.
Having Conversation With Your Child About Cancer is an activity and colouring book that can help you answer these questions and more. It is designed to help you:
This book contains six activity sections. Each activity is designed to stimulate and empower the parent, carer and child to talk through their emotions, feelings and worries they have when a parent, carer or someone in their family or extended family is diagnosed with cancer.
The activities included in this book encourage the parent and child to talk about what is happening, how they are feeling about what is happening, create their own stories about a memorable time or special event in the family, talk about things they like about their family, colouring pages, keep a weekly journal and looking ahead to name but a few.
This book can be used with younger children under supervision and guidance of an adult, caregiver or professional. The activities in section 1 & 2 relates to drawings and colourings so the younger child will be comfortably able to do these with adult help and support.
The activities in sections 3, 4, 5 & 6 relate to the older children as it encourages them to write and talk in more detail about their emotions and feelings and things that have happened. However, depending on the age of your child or children these activities can also be completed with some parental and professional supervision.
Having Conversations With Your Child About Cancer is not only a book. It is a conversation starter, a stress reliever, and a source of comfort for you and your child. It is a tool that can help you and your child face cancer with courage, compassion, and confidence.
It’s a perfect resource for parents, grandparents, carers and teachers, or anyone who wishes to help children understand this challenging topic in a simple and age-appropriate manner.
